Happy New Year everyone! I hope 2018 was a good year for you, and 2019 is even better.
I’m going to join the chorus this year and talk about resolutions. It’s not something I’ve ever really participated in. But why not give it a shot? I’m sure I’ll fail at mine like everyone else’s! (lol)
I’ve been mulling over a few ideas. And here’s what I am walking into 2019 dedicating myself to doing:
- Blogging every day. I’m writing this post a little in advance of New Years Day, but so far I have a couple days going strong of doing this already. Hopefully, I’ll keep the trend up and go at least a year straight of blogging each day. I’m not saying all posts are going to be exceptional (… if any). Many have actual substance. Many won’t. I don’t really care. My only goal here is to put out a post every day and get myself into the habit of creating something. A huge thank you to Seth Godin for the idea; the man himself blogs each day and I hope to emulate that to foster a better mindset for other aspects of my life.
- New Language & Framework. This is something I do every year anyway. So it’s a bit of a no-brainer. But I intend to put another language and framework in my toolkit this year. Most of my work these days is in Ruby and Node.js. And for many years I was a PHP developer. One language I’ve never really given much thought is Python. I’m familiar with the language and can find my way around it. But this year I intend to devote time and effort into becoming proficient with it and a framework. Probably Django, but maybe I’ll add Flask into the mix for a lightweight option too.
- Healthier Lifestyle. This is going to be a big one for me. And oddly, I think my #1 resolution will actually help me in this. Cliche as it is, I truly wish to eat better and be more active. Working behind a desk has always made this more difficult than it should be. So it won’t be easy to change. But, it’s about time to do so. I’ll be 30 in just a few weeks. Time to be conscious of my health!
So there we have it- my three resolutions. What are yours?
